Em the water dog

Hello All,
Glad you found me over on this section. Hope you don't forget I am here ;)
I wanted to let you all know that Em is progressing well on her antibotics. The vet has her on them for 3 weeks. She will finish up just in time for me to leave for a work conference in Pismo beach. Darn the luck, the hotel takes animals, but it will be very cold this time of year so she will stay the night at grandpa's.
I have seen a good progress with her over the last week, her water consumption has decreased as well as her peeing, hunger, panting etc.
Now we are just learning to adjust to the blindness. I am going to make the eye dr. appointment for her next week.
Thanks for caring!
Hugs,
Laurie

Hi Laurie :)
Now that your Emmy has tested negative for Cushing's and you are posting here in the off-topic section instead of in the Questions forum, don't worry, we won't forget you are here! I'm glad you are continuing to update us, especially because your posts may be helpful to others who suspect Cushing's but whose dogs test negative. may give them ideas as to what other avenues to explore if symptoms continue.
I'm hoping it's just a bladder infection that will clear up soon with the antibiotics, but am glad you will be taking Emmy to the Ophthalmologist Vet since sudden blindness is not something that would be caused by a bladder infection (at least not as far as I know).
Let us know what the Eye Doctor Vet says. Perhaps your Emmy has "SARDS" (sudden acquired retinal detachment?) about which I know very little, but I think that cortisol levels may also be elevated in SARDS dogs even if they test negative for Cushing's and there may also be other symptoms which are similar to Cushing's symptoms, including increased water consumption etc.
Perhaps you'll be able to enlighten us and teach us something new if the Eye Vet can figure out what caused Emmy to become blind so suddenly.
(((hugs)))

I hope Emmy is doing well but please be observant. There are lots of things unknown about SARDS and not all dogs do well. Our Newfy died Jan14,2006 from complications, please see the following web site and read his story. Then if your Emmy has any of those problems get in touch with Dr. Sinisa Grozdanic at Iowa State Vet school ASAP. He has had some success and is working very hard on problems and cures. Incidentally my given name is Emmie Lou so I really relate to your baby. Web site follows"

Thank You "Kody's Grandma" for your post and for the link to Kody's website.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Laurie will see what you wrote to her ... you may not have noticed, but the last time Laurie posted in this thread was in October 2003 (more than 4 years ago) and she hasn't been back here since then, as far as I know.
