I had a question and asked Cushy in a private message, and she suggested that I post it here, incase there are others that have the same question. I wanted to know how to copy a quote, I had been just cutting and pasting So here is her reply. I did it, I did it. YEA

When you want to quote something, cut and paste it or type it into your message box, then highlight the text you want to quote by holding down the left button on your mouse and dragging it across all of the text you want in the quote. Then release the mouse button and hit the little icon at the top of the dialogue box (where you are typing) that looks like a little yellow box with a point on the bottom of it. It's on the top right side of the box where you type your message. See it?By the way, That little yellow icon with the "tail on it" that I mentioned before will "say" "wrap [quote] tags around selected text" if you hover your mouse over it, so you'll know it's the correct icon to use.
well I hope I did it.
thanks Cushy and Merry Christmas.
Sharon

Hi Sharon :D

It looks like you almost got it, because I see [/quote] after the words you were trying to put in the quote box

(and yes, I changed the title of the original post so people will know this is a test "thread" :))

here's another way to do it:

before the words you want to quote, type this:

[quote]

It's a vb code that "starts the quote"

Then write the words that you want to be in the "quote box" (or copy and paste some words)

And after the woreds you want to quote, type this:

[/quote]

That's the vb code that ends the quote

I had to do that in two messages, or else it would have come out as a quote. :D

like this:

before the words you want to quote, type this:

And after the woreds you want to quote, type this:

:D :D :D

Okay, so I can't spell ...

Here's where you can read up on doing that kind of thing manually:

http://www.caninecushings.net/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain

more about "vb codes" here:

http://www.caninecushings.net/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode

(scroll way down the page where it is about how to do quotes)

One more "automatic" way to do it is like this:

click on the little yellow icon with the tail and automatically the two quote "tags" will appear in the box where you type your posts. Just type inbetween the two quote tags (or paste some text in there) and that will work too.

Whatever way you do it, automatically or manually, there has to be a "start quote tag" before the quoted words and an "end quote tag" after the quoted words

Thanks, I was beat from work, and my brain was not exactly into it.

When I click the icon both the start quote and end quote come up so I have to delete the end quote and paste then click the icon again to end. or be sure to put the messaged right in the middle of the 2.

Thanks

Woo Hoo! You did it! :DWhen I click the icon both the start quote and end quote come up so I have to delete the end quote and paste then click the icon again to end. or be sure to put the messaged right in the middle of the 2. YEA Thanks SharonYup, it will bring up both (the "start quote tag" and the "end quote tag") if you hit the little yellow quote icon first.

But if you highlight some words that you've already typed or pasted into your post (by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the mouse over all of the text you want to quote) and then you hit the little quote icon, the "start quote tag" will automatically be placed in front of the highlighted text and the "end quote tag" will be placed after the highlighted text.

And you can always just type in the start and end quote tags yourself, too.

Feel free to keep practicing in this thread if you want to try the different ways to do it. :D

Thanks, it is funny what some sleep can do, i had also taken a unisom, an over the counter sleep helper, and I think I was stoned. Glad I woke up in time for work.

Tried the cutting and paste then highlight THEN hit the icon, that is wonderful, now I too can quote professionally.
Thanks.
Merry Christmas
