Hi all,

We do have a few folks here whose dogs have been diagnosed with both Cushing's and Diabetes.

Here are some links which may be helpful.

Information in the chapter on Therapy of Concurrent Diabetes Mellitus and Cushing's Syndrome, from the veterinary textbook, Canine and Feline Endocrinology and Reproduction, 2nd Edition, by Edward C. Feldman and Richard W. Nelson, 1996

www.io.com/~lolawson/cush...betes.html (http://www.io.com/~lolawson/cushings/articles/diabetes.html)

Link to the Pets with Diabetes website, which has alot of excellent information:

http://www.petdiabetes.org/contents.htm

*note: the petdiabetes.org site seems to be offline at the moment (June 2008). I'm not quite sure why that is, but keep checking back to see if and when it comes back online. There is alot of really good information there.

Until the petdiabetes.org site comes back online, you may be able to access the information there via this url:
http://www.indulgedfurries.com/petdiabetes/contents.htm

Or via these two urls:
http://www.caninediabetes.org/pdorg/
http://www.caninediabetes.org/pdorg/contents.htm

Or via this one:

Pets with Diabetes messageboard:

Link to the "Vetsulin" website, about dogs with Diabetes:

Treatment for Diabetes Mellitus in dogs (http://www.vetsulin.com/PDF/20585.pdf)

And here's a link to another website which explains the diagnostic process for dogs suspected of having Cushing's, Diabetes or both. Clinical signs and symptoms are discussed and lab tests used to diagnose both diseases are explained there too.

A new resource for people with Diabetic dogs, the K9diabetes website and message board have just been launched. A great place to learn what you need to know regarding the treatment and care of diabetic dogs.

Just diagnosed? Take a deep breath. Diabetes in dogs is almost always manageable and with good care and monitoring, your dog can live a normal, healthy lifespan.
